Notes:
1. Assistance in applying for for, uncomplicated, first time NYS security guard license applications is FREE for paid NYS unarmed guard training. taken with us, within the past year, that is listed on this page (above).
2. Assistance in renewing your NYS security guard license when you attend your NYS Eight Hour Annual In-Service Course for Security Guards with us is also free for members in good standing, while taking that class.
IMPORTANT: For those who (a) took their training elsewhere, and need assistance in obtaining a security guard license or (b) need help RENEWING their NYS security guard license past the six month grace period, regardless of whether or not you require a class, our minimum admin fee is $50. We cannot provide this service for free. Instead contact the NYS Department of State at (518) 474-7569 for assistance.
They can help you to determine precisely what they require to renew your license, and what the current grace period is (or rules are) especially since the multiple COIVD-19 extensions/rule changes have apparently expired. There are a number of situations that are complicated, and they can help you for FREE.
You are respectfully reminded that if you let your NYS security license lapse it is not our fault. The fault and responsibility lies with you and you alone.
Moreover, it is YOUR responsibility to find out exactly what you need AND exactly what you want us to do for you -- NOT ours (also see #2 below). We already spend hundreds of hours helping each month people with a number of services we offer our student members in good standing and problems they have for FREE, and, unfortunately, we cannot offer any additional free services.
Therefore you are once again advised to call the NYS DOS at (518) 474-7569 for free help.
We love everyone but there is only so much free work we can sustain and remain operational. Also, tying us up on the phone, online or in person, arguing your personal opinions is impolite, unreasonable, and will not help you: The state requires you follow their rules and the law if you want your license back.
We appreciate your cooperation.
2. NYS mandates MINIMUM training requirements as outlined in NYS GBL 89 (n), but employers may require over and above the minimums so you should check with BOTH the state and your employer/potential employer(s), where applicable, to see what course or courses you may actually need.
